Tom Samolczyk
I was born in England and grew up north of Toronto. I moved to Cambridge in 1977. I have recently retired from being a family physician and now live in Kitchener. So now I have more time to sketch and paint.
I can recall painting and sketching at a very early age. I still remember how frustrated I was trying to use my first oil painting set. My formal education did not include any Art classes but I have taken watercolour courses at the Dundas Valley School of Art, the Cambridge Library and Gallery and at Chautauqua,New York. I have exhibited at the Dundas Valley School of Art, the Galt Little Theatre and I was acknowledged with an award at the Cambridge Juried Art Exhibition at the Preston Library. I have held private exhibitions of my watercolours and also taken part in the Cambridge Studio Tour. I have now joined KWSA and taken acrylic painting instruction with Sheila MacDonald Roberts at the Button Factory. I am primarily a landscape artist and very much enjoy doing my initial sketch or watercolour au plein air.The Grand River and its environs offer sufficient subject matter especially with the added feature of changing seasons. For a change of scenery I also paint up north at our cottage near North Bay and when we travel. |
