Sheila's interest in art started early and so did lessons, at age 6. At age 9, she began taking painting lessons from well-known Toronto artist Adrian Dingle and continued during the winters until she was 16. During the summers, she attended the Doon School of Art, now the Homer Watson House and Gallery. Here she was taught by the likes of F H Varley, A J Casson, Claire Bice and Yvonne McKague-Housser. At age 17 Sheila went to the Ontario College of Art and on graduation was the first female student to win the T Eaton Scholarship. She then spent a season at Stratford as a costume painter for the Festival and worked on productions like HMS Pinafore and Romeo and Juliet. Here she won the Guthrie award for costume breakdown.
She uses all media, depending on the situation – oil, watercolour, acrylic, pencil, encaustic. She also designs jewellery and knitwear. She has had a sales outlet for her work at the Fergus Market for 14 years.
