Jessica McKenzie
Artist Profile/Bio
I studied art in after school programs from age 8 to 15! After I took off on my own. To me, art was always a passion and a hobby. I taught acrylic painting for some years, to increase income, but never really considered myself an artist until a few years ago! Now I like to have fun and try out new things. I am a multimedia artist in the sense that I dabble in just about anything! I love to recycle and reuse materials, I paint, draw, sculpt, photograph and anything in between. If I had to choose a medium of choice however, I would have to pick acrylic painting. I have been creating art for over 20 years, which is a significant portion of my life! However, I have only started to take my art seriously since 2018. |
About my art process
My art is motivated by a passion for life and the environment. I am always looking for ways to reduce, reuse and recycle materials, which forces me to get creative. My work often represents nature or animals, or various events which impacts our environment.
If I were to describe my art process it would have to be hectic and confusing. My mind is a kaleidoscope of images and ideas that just explode outwards!
I want people to relate to the world, and the impact of humans on the planet when looking at my art. I want people to see the world through my eyes for a few minutes.
I have not won any award or contest in art since high school. But who knows, now that I am trying, maybe I’ll get lucky!
How to reach me and my art
My art is currently displayed in my basement. Not ideal, however I try to also display my work on social media, and I am always looking for new opportunities.
I take commission work, I also offer pet-portrait services and am opened to teach 1:1 classes in French or English.
My art is for sale to those interested! Reach out to me on social media or via e-mail to discuss.
I am a member of KWSA and try to enter as many shows as possible through the organisation. As an new-ish artist, I’m still trying to find my place.
