Website: gusykemapaintings.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gustavykema My name is Gustav Ykema, born in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. I grew up in Kitchener The art forms that I pursued included photography, pencil drawings, watercolours, acrylics, pastels, metal work and wood work. My personal journey started in photography when my father gave me his Foth-Derby camera, at 8 years old. I studied Theatre Arts at Niagara College ending up specializing in Props. After I took some time to travel Europe. Ultimately it was Amsterdam that supercharged my love to create. At present, I take my photographs, grid a 11x7 photocopy sheet; then grid my medium (usually) paper, draw the subject and then paint. This way I can create the realistic image of where I’ve been. The purpose is to totally re-live the feeling and the visual moment. The process of rebuilding a photograph, you get to know the view intimately. Actually walking past the same, you miss so much. On my website gusykemapaintings.com I share my lifetime journey with art. My art has found a home in Germany, The Netherlands and Canada. I have taken commissions in the past and I would consider selling my pieces. Prints have been made of my work. |
