Deb Taylor-Birr
I have been drawing since I can remember, always lured by a clean blank piece of paper. Over the years I have always found ways to incorporate art into my world. Since retirement, life has afforded me the luxury of time to give my art full attention. Primarily self taught, I have attended numerous art courses and workshops. Instruction at the Haliburton School of Art, Albert Casson’s School of Art and a variety of classes with local artists have inspired and guided me to develop my skills. More recently I have been an online attendee at Art Live conferences. I work primarily with pastels though also enjoy mixed media using watercolors, colored pencil and pen and ink. Wildlife, birds and young animals tend to be my main subjects of interest.
Details have always captured my eye and I love the challenge of exploring elusive details beyond the obvious realism. As I progress with my work, I enjoy finding and surprising myself and viewers with the unexpected – be it color or line.
My art has been displayed in the Maple Hollow Studio north of Kingston, Ont. and at Café du Monde in Cambridge, Ont. My work will be on display later this summer at the Art in the Sawmill show in Verona, Ont.
