My name is Vickie Lawrence and I have been an artist from the time I could hold a pencil!  I am from a long line of artists and I'm grateful for this wonderful gift...  I have been a professional artist since 1986 and I've won numerous awards, been featured/interviewed in magazines, published in books and accepted into regional, national and international competitions.  I am a self-taught artist with no formal training.  I did however grow up with access to a variety of art materials, books and a strong desire to create art!

I honestly don't know what motivates me...  Creating art has just always been there...  I have to say that I do prefer realism and being able to capture it is very satisfying.  I drew my inspiration from my passion for horses for many years, but I'm finding my subject matter has begun to include anything that vibrates with colour and glorious light!  I use a number of different mediums including acrylic, graphite, coloured pencil, watercolour and most recently, mixed media.  I work largely from photographs... which stems from the fact that horses don't stand still!  Cameras do a wonderful job of capturing motion, light and colour.  I want my art to portray that split second... that fleeting moment...  I love how I can see a potential drawing or painting everywhere I look in my daily life.  I guess that would be my inspiration!

My work is currently being displayed at the Wellington Artists Gallery near Fergus, ON., on my website at www.vickielawrence.ca, on Facebook at Vickie Lawrence - Artist and at various outdoor summer events like the Eden Mills Arts Festival, Campbellville Artisans Show, also various KWSA and Wellington Artists Gallery events.  I take commissions now and then, and enter a number of competitions throughout the year.  Sadly the economy over time has seen the demise of several international competitions that I regularly entered.  But the good news is that collectors still collect... just smaller pieces!  I sell prints, giclee and note cards of my work and I am teaching the medium of coloured pencil for those who would like to try something different...
