Painting with watercolours allows the nuances of nature to unfold. I am continually struck by the play of light on water, the shadows in foliage, the changeability of skies, and the vibrancy or subtlety of colour. My paintings celebrate not only the energy and vitality of nature, but its serenity and harmony.
After years of teaching English and Art to intermediate students in the elementary panel, retirement in 2001 allowed me the time to indulge in my passion for watercolours. Along with my Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University, I had attained a Specialist certificate in Visual Arts through the Ministry of Education. Since retirement, I have continued to upgrade my artistic skills through Conestoga College, the Homer Watson House and Gallery, the Cambridge Centre for the Arts, the Cambridge Library and Gallery and the Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke. Attending workshops given by noted artists like Jack Reid, David Read, Gordon MacKenzie, Linda Kemp, Ken MacFarlane, Liz Gibson, Jill Segal, Jake Mol, Art Cunanan, and David McEown as well as excellent local artists, have kept me not only motivated, but inspired.
I have been honoured to have been accepted by the CSPWC into their OPEN WATER JURIED SHOW 2014 (Toronto) and 2015 ( Halifax), and I won the JUROR'S CHOICE AWARD for the CSPWC Holiday Competition, December 2016.
