I like to explore new ways to express my ideas. At the present time my pastel work portraying local farms and farm landscapes has led to painting colourful quilt-like designs in acrylic inspired by the widespread practice of quilting in this Region. This may involve farm landscapes combined in an aerial view of the countryside. While most of my aerial views are meant to be an impression of this region, my imagination plays a major role in the design and subject matter. I like to include lakes, rivers and drifting clouds to create movement and interest. Viewers often respond positively to these colourful aerial views: "light and airy", "exudes joy and freedom" are some of the comments when people view my work. This is the reaction I want people to have. I want to present a happy colourful moment.
I was born in Listowel and have always lived in Ontario, mostly in this area. My work has been recognized in many juried shows including many of those sponsored by Pastel Artists Canada where I have earned Signature Status, the Central Ontario Art Association, Paint Ontario, the K-W Society of Artists and the Waterloo Community Arts Centre. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (studio specialization) in 1993 at the University of Waterloo as a mature student. I work mostly on my own, but have attended some workshops.
