Photography has been an avocation of mine for over five decades. That all changed with the acquisition of my first digital camera, a computer and photo editing software over a decade ago. Together these developments have provided the epiphany that art and not my chosen career in the architectural profession was my true calling in life. Today I am a self-taught digital artist. I am a non-conformist in that I do not specialize in any one particular genre of art, nor do I adhere to stifling rules dictated by others - two factors that stifle creativity.
Subject matters that pique my curiosity range from the human face and body, people in period costumes, antique cars, aircraft and sailing ships, the changing seasons, flowers, landscapes and abstracts. My art runs the gamut from whimsical to thought provoking images and everything in between. And because I look at my art through the eyes and mindset of a child, that approach has yielded many serendipitous discoveries.
While most artists create art to make a living, I live to create art. A true artist doesn’t need a reason for creating art since it is an inherent part of his/her DNA. My art is a labour of love. To paraphrase Descartes “I create art, therefore I am.”
