Chris Farrell
I use digital photography and abstract painting to create a photographic image that appears to have been digitally altered. The photograph is printed onto clear vinyl and laminated to clear acrylic and suspended over the canvas surface. The texture and colours of the canvas are allowed to show through, creating an abstraction of the original unaltered photograph. An analog version of a digital process...
The two paintings shown here are photographs taken in Montreal. The first one is a photo of a statue of Jesus not far from where my grandparents are buried in Mount Royal Cemetery. The second one is a photograph of a statue in St. Joseph's Oratory. Two of the disciples, Peter and Paul, are depicted as one statue. My trip to Montreal turned into a photo essay of cathedrals and religious statues. It also gave me some insight into the life and childhood of my older brother, with whom I made the journey. We decided to trace the roots of our parents and grandparents by finding the homes that they lived in during our early years living in Montreal. I had to rely on my brother for his memories, as I was only 4 years old when we left. I also dabble in 2D animation |
