Biography / Statement

Jan Fretz, founder of fleur de soleil gallery & studio, was born in Waterloo County. She lived in Toronto for 30 years where she worked primarily in the woven and fabric arts. Her recent return to Waterloo has revived her interest in studying other media. She is currently a part-time student of Honors Fine Arts (Studio) at the University of Waterloo, working in oil, acrylic, watercolour, printmaking and clay. Jan's work has found its way into homes and businesses in North America. Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Uganda and South Korea. Her work is also featured on CD covers.

Jan Fretz specializes in fabric art and paintings. She is also a printmaker who has considerable experience teaching art to both children and adults in art programs at the Canadian Clay and Glass, WCAC, Homer Watson Gallery and Elora Centre for the Arts. She teaches ages 2-90.
