This artist has had a keen appreciation of art for many years but before retiring devoted his spare time to gardening. He also studied horticulture and landscape design with the university of Guelph and then, as a master gardener, volunteered at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington. In 2005 Herb lost his mate of 50 years and soon found it difficult to put in his time. It was not until he met his future wife Gwen in 2010 that he was encouraged to get back to painting again, this time in acrylics. They have travelled extensively and since moving to Burlington Herb has found an artist friend and instructor Patricia Kirby, (recently deceased) who has helped and encouraged him to go further in his artwork. His works show a vivid and happy lifestyle and Gwen is his best critic and encourager. At 89 Herb is enjoying a few hours everyday at his favourite pastime in front of his easel. He is currently a member of the Westover Artists group. They have just recently moved to downtown Kitchener to be nearer their families.
